Shark Pursuit Vacuum Cleaners: Bag less Wonders or Frustrations?

Shark Pursuit vacuum cleaners are a series of bag less canister cleaners manufactured by Euro-Pro. Because they are bag less, these vacuum cleaners store their collected dust and dirt in a dust cup.

Like all vacuum cleaners of today, Shark Pursuit vacuum cleaners feature a washable HEPA filter that is effective in keeping away 99.97% of small organisms and particles present in dust from being thrown back into the air; Organisms as small as 0.3 microns are not safe from this filter. Instead, these organisms are trapped inside together with the dust in order to ensure cleaner air as well as cleaner floors and carpets.

The dust cup is not replaceable. You need not worry about getting your hands dirty. The cups empty from the bottom, and can be rinsed with water. Emptying is done by just a press of a button.

Part of this product line by Euro Pro is the Shark EP724 and the UV209B.

Shark EP724- With its 10.8-ampere motor and its powerful 1300-watt cyclonic suction, the EP724 Shark Pursuit vacuum cleaner is ruthless against dirt and debris. The cyclonic action is said to deliver suction power 1.5 greater than that of a full-size vacuum cleaner.

It has a 15 foot long power cord that is also retractable. With this, you can plug the machine in only one plug for the whole vacuum-cleaning session and easily rewind the cord for storage afterwards. Further boosting the EP724’s cleaning range is its hose which is 4.79 feet long.

Perfect for cleaning both carpets and bare floors, the EP724 is fitted with large wheels that helps protect your floors from damage when moving the Shark Pursuit vacuum cleaner around while cleaning. It has a rotating brush tool that helps remove dirt and dust even if they have been deeply embedded in the carpet.

The EP724 comes packaged with tools including a 2-in-1 service brush, chrome telescopic tube, deluxe brush and a crevice tool.

Shark UV209B- Also ideal for cleaning carpets, the UV209B Shark Pursuit vacuum cleaner features the ability of adjusting four levels of carpet heights that is not present in the EP724. It can also perform equally well in cleaning bare floors, and you can turn off the brush roll feature to enter into the suction only cleaning mode for bare floors.

With a 30-foot cord, the UV209B gives you twice the cleaning range than the EP724 gives. It is powered by a 12-ampere motor, and could clean a path as wide as 15 inches.

Accessories and tools that come together with the packaging include a dusting brush, a crevice tool, an upholstery tool and a pair of extension wands.

User Feedback

Both models of Shark pursuit vacuum cleaners have garnered a lot of negative reviews in Amazon.com.

The EP724 and the UV209B have been found to actually produce weak suction, despite the hype about its cyclonic action. The EP724, in particular, performed poorly in removing cat hair and even regular dust from carpets and rugs.

The thermostat, which has been installed on the UV209B to prevent over-heating of the motor, has proven to give more difficulties to users. It has been found to overheat quickly, causing the auto shut off feature of the thermostat to kick in. Users have found that they are only allowed a short window of time to perform cleaning before the safety features causes problems.

Some users, however, have praised the EP724’s performance in cleaning bare, wooden floors as it has proven itself effective in that area.
